Pathimugham, East Indian Rosewood or Sappan wood, boiled in water is an excellent thirst quencher and blood purifier.
The hard, heart wood of the tree is the medicinal part and when boiled with water, the water turns light pink in color. All you need to do is to boil the water with pathimugam for 2-3 minutes, strain the water and consume it with your meals or anytime of the day. The healing water is used as a cure for kidney disorders, skin diseases, cholesterol, blood purification and diabetes.
This medicinal tree is a prophylactic and its wood powder is used to reduce pain and swellings caused by external injuries. It is also used to treat certain conditions of the blood, namely dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea and to reduce abdominal pain in women, following child- birth.
A study has shown that sappanwood provides more antioxidants and better protection from free radicals than quercetin [3] found in antioxidant-rich foods like blueberries.
Washing your face with sappanwood water can be an effective acne treatment.
If “Pathimugam” is boiled in water, the water gets purified and thereby drinking this water can prevent epidemic diseases spreading through water.
